What does opportunity look like? Sometimes it looks like a student confidently demonstrating newly acquired digital skills. Sometimes it looks like a child putting on a new school uniform and walking into class with pride. And sometimes it looks like a university student sharing their dreams with a room full of people who believe in them.
During our April trip to Kenya, sponsors had the opportunity to witness these moments firsthand. Across Nairobi, Naivasha, and Laikipia, they saw how access to education, technology, mentorship, and community support is helping students build brighter futures.
Opening Doors Through Digital Literacy
One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Moja Tu’s computer labs and meeting students who are developing essential digital skills. Sponsors toured the labs, interacted with learners, and watched students confidently demonstrate what they have been learning.
For many visitors, it was remarkable to see how quickly students had embraced technology and developed practical skills that will serve them well in the future. A particularly memorable moment came during a touch-typing competition between sponsors and students. The friendly contest sparked laughter, excitement, and plenty of surprises as students showcased their impressive typing speeds.
Beyond the fun, the experience highlighted something important: digital literacy is creating new opportunities for young people and preparing them for an increasingly technology-driven world.
The Confidence That Comes With a School Uniform
Another major milestone during the trip was the distribution of school uniforms to students from Dreams and Manaseh Children’s Home. Thanks to the generosity of donors and supporters, 150 students received new uniforms ahead of the school term.
While a uniform may seem like a simple item, its impact reaches much further. For students, it means walking into school feeling prepared, included, and confident. It removes barriers and allows them to focus on learning rather than worrying about what they will wear.
Looking Ahead
As the April trip came to a close, sponsors left with a deeper understanding of the impact their support is creating. They saw students mastering technology, gaining confidence, pursuing higher education, and preparing for meaningful careers. They witnessed firsthand how access to opportunity can change the trajectory of a young person’s life.
Most importantly, they saw hope in action. At Moja Tu, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams. Thanks to the support of sponsors, donors, and partners, that vision continues to become a reality for hundreds of students across Kenya.
We are already looking forward to next year’s trip and the opportunity to witness even more stories of growth, achievement, and transformation.
