Gladys is a bright, confident, and determined Grade 9 student at Salama Primary School in Laikipia, Kenya. She comes from a family of five and lives with her single mother, who sells vegetables to support their family. The family rents a home and often faces financial hardship, which has led to Gladys being frequently sent home due to unpaid school fees and challenges in meeting basic needs such as food.

Despite these difficulties, Gladys continues to perform well in school, currently ranked 4th out of 52 students. Her strongest subject is English, where she excels in both written and verbal communication. She has a strong ambition to become a doctor and dreams of starting her own business in the future to help support her family and craete job opportunities for people.

Gladys is highly active in both academic and co-curricular activities. She is a skilled javelin athlete, having competed since Grade 6, where she has consistently performed well and even won events. She is also a top cross-country runner, ranked 1st in her school for her endurance and speed. In volleyball, she serves as the school captain for games, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and discipline.

Through the computer lab established at her school by Moja Tu in partnership with TechLit Africa, Gladys has developed strong digital skills, particularly in touch typing. She has reached “Ninja Mode” level with 32 words per minute and 82% accuracy, showing steady growth in her digital literacy.

Gladys also holds several leadership positions, including Deputy Speaker, Scout Commander, and First Aider. These roles reflect her responsibility, confidence, and ability to support and guide her peers.

About this Sponsorship

Sponsoring a secondary student is $1,020 a year, or $85 per month. Co-sponsoring a secondary student is $600 a year, or $50 per month. This amount covers the students’ tuition fees, and buys school supplies, uniforms, shoes, and other personal effects required to live at boarding school.
