Some moments seem small at the time, yet they quietly change the course of a person’s life forever. For Samuel Wachira, that moment came while he was still a young student in Salama Ward Zone, Laikipia County.

But it was during a school visit by a Moja Tu official and the Laikipia regional coordinators that his story took a remarkable turn. Samuel was chosen to give the vote of thanks after the team spoke to students about education, hard work, and the possibility of a better future. “I remember feeling nervous, but also excited,” Samuel recalls. “I wanted to speak well because I knew opportunities do not come every day.”
After hearing him speak, the visitors noticed something special in him. They later introduced themselves to him personally and guided him through the process of joining the Moja Tu program. For Samuel, that moment felt like the door to a future he had only dreamed about.
“Joining Moja Tu gave me hope,” he says. “For the first time, I truly believed my dreams were possible.”
That hope became the foundation on which he built his future.
From an early age, Samuel had always been drawn to medicine. He was fascinated by the idea of helping people find answers during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. This passion eventually led him to pursue radiography, a field that combines science, technology, and compassionate patient care.
Today, Samuel works as a radiographer, carrying out X-rays and ultrasounds, analyzing medical images, preparing reports, and supporting doctors in diagnosing illnesses. Behind every scan is a patient searching for answers, and Samuel understands the importance of handling each case with both professionalism and empathy.
“Sometimes patients come in anxious and afraid,” he explains. “You realize your work is not only about machines and reports. It is also about reassuring people and helping them through difficult moments.”
His journey into the medical field was anything but easy. Studying medicine-related courses required long hours of reading, demanding clinical rotations, and constant discipline. There were days that began before sunrise and moments when exhaustion and burnout felt overwhelming. Yet Samuel kept pushing forward because he never lost sight of why he started.
“There were times I felt tired and stretched,” he admits. “But I kept reminding myself that every sacrifice was preparing me for the life I wanted and the people I hoped to help someday.”
What makes Samuel’s story especially inspiring is not just his success, but the humility and purpose with which he carries it. He understands that education changed the direction of his life, and he remains deeply grateful for the support that helped him get there.
Today, he encourages young people, especially those from challenging backgrounds, not to give up on their dreams simply because the road feels difficult.
“Your background does not decide your future,” Samuel says. “If you stay disciplined, remain humble, and keep working hard, your life can completely change.”
