Celebrating the Women in our Lives

February 25, 2023

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, we honor and recognize the strength and resilience of every woman in the world. At Moja Tu, we are dedicated to empowering young women not only through education, but also mentally and socially.

To celebrate this day, some of our beneficiaries shared stories of the women they will be celebrating today – the women who have impacted their lives. Through stories, we are reminded of the importance of supporting and celebrating each other’s achievements, as we work towards a more equitable world.

Beatrice, a first-year student at Kenyatta University, values International Women’s Day because it reminds her to celebrate and honor the strong women who have impacted her life. She encourages women to better themselves by supporting each other, celebrating each other’s achievements, and caring for one another. On this day, she celebrates her mother, who has been a cornerstone in building her into the person she is today. She also acknowledges Kathy Kempff, who has supported her and many others financially, socially, and academically.

She is grateful to Moja Tu for giving her the opportunity to explore many opportunities in life through the power of education, the ability to build herself up, and the tools to become a creative thinker. “The mentorship sessions have helped me to make firm decisions as I explore the opportunities that come my way,” she shares.

Elizabeth, a third-year student at Chuka University, uses Women’s Day to reflect on the progress made by women in society. She encourages people to celebrate the acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles in history. On this day, she will be celebrating her mother, who has been a strong pillar in her life. She also celebrates the women in Moja Tu who are making a difference in the lives of students. “We are indeed lucky that we have people who are investing in us and are rooting for our success,” she asserts.

For Sarah, a student of public health with IT, International Women’s Day is a day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women across the globe. She will be celebrating her mentor, Cassie, on this day. The Moja Tu mentorship program has been a life changer for Sarah, transforming her from a shy, inarticulate girl into a confident, go-getter. Moja Tu is empowering Sarah and many other girls in the program by giving them a chance to pursue a higher education.
