Before Moja Tu, David’s educational life was marked by struggle and uncertainty. Despite being a bright student, his dreams seemed out of reach as he grappled with constant financial barriers that led to frequent school expulsions for unpaid fees. However, everything changed in 2015 when Moja Tu entered his life, breathing new hope into his aspirations.
“I just joined high school and was anxious about my school fees. Fortunately, Moja Tu partnered with the school to sponsor boys in need, and I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the beneficiaries. The program was seeking additional bright students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and I was chosen to join based on my circumstances,” David, now a final-year university student, reflects.
David describes Moja Tu as more than just a scholarship program-it’s a family and a home. “Since I joined, my educational journey has been smooth and promising. Moja Tu not only covered my school fees but also provided monthly upkeep and financial support for school-related necessities, ensuring my uninterrupted focus on my studies,” he shares.
Moreover, Moja Tu’s impact extended beyond academics to personal development. Through seminars featuring accomplished speakers, David gleaned valuable life lessons, with one mantra, “Work smart, not hard,” becoming his daily motivation.
After graduating high school, David discovered his passion for public health records, a field that blends healthcare and technology to enhance efficiency and patient outcomes. Engaging in projects like researching outbreaks in Nairobi City, he honed skills in data management, interoperability, and healthcare workflow optimization.
Beyond academia, David found solace and growth in sports, particularly table tennis. This sport instilled confidence and quick decision-making skills vital in navigating life’s challenges. His achievements in the sport, including participation in major tournaments like the All-African Games, underscored his dedication and resilience.
David shares, “The sport is about reflexes, quick thinking, judging the ball, and taking the necessary action in a split second.”
Looking ahead, David is ambitious about his future in the healthcare sector. He aspires to secure prominent positions within government or private hospitals or non-government organizations (NGOs), potentially looking to make an impact on a global scale beyond Kenya. He is grateful for Moja Tu’s pivotal role in his journey and remains committed to honoring their support by continuing to strive for excellence and uplifting the program’s name.
David extends a heartfelt appreciation to his sponsor and best friend, Erwin, whose unwavering belief and support empowered him to pursue his dreams. With determination and gratitude as his compass, David remains poised to make a meaningful impact, both personally and professionally, and we are so here for it!
