Driven by Purpose: Obed’s Path of Focus, Faith, and Education

November 24, 2025

Every once in a while, a student’s story reminds us why education has the power to transform lives. At Graceland Schools in Nyahururu, we meet Obed Ondieki, a focused and determined Form Two student whose discipline, ambition, and heart reflect the very mission of Moja Tu, empowering young people to dream big and build a better future.

Obed speaks proudly about his school, describing it as a place where he has grown both academically and personally. Now preparing to transition into Form Three, he has already distinguished himself in his favorite subjects: Physics, Mathematics, Biology, English, and Kiswahili. These subjects, he says, challenge him to think deeply, stay curious, and look beyond the classroom.

What drives him to work so hard? His answer is simple but profound: “I want to succeed, not just for myself, but so I can support my parents, uplift my family, and inspire others.” For Obed, education is more than a pathway to success. It is a responsibility, a chance to honor the sacrifices of those who believe in him. He draws strength from his biggest inspiration: “My mother motivates me every day. Her strength keeps me going even when things get tough.”

While he is academically driven, Obed also understands the importance of balance. He enjoys dancing and reading novels, which help him stay energized and focused. His daily routine is built on consistency, including revising notes, practicing questions, and carefully managing his time. He believes true success is not about last-minute effort but about steady and deliberate preparation.

Like many students, Obed has faced pressure from teachers, high expectations at home, and competition among peers. But he has learned to respond with resilience. He takes breaks when overwhelmed, seeks advice from teachers and mentors, and reminds himself that every obstacle is part of the growth journey.

His success, he says, is shaped by a strong support system composed of his mother, teachers, friends, and the Moja Tu community, including his sponsor. According to Obed, five values are essential to any student’s success: discipline, hard work, consistency, humility, and a positive mindset.

Looking ahead, Obed dreams of joining university and pursuing a career that will allow him to serve his community and make a meaningful impact. He hopes to build a life that reflects not just his personal ambition but also the guidance and support he has received along the way.

Before we ended our conversation, Obed shared a message for fellow students:

“Every successful student started somewhere. Don’t give up. Stay consistent, ask for help when you need it, and believe in yourself. You can achieve anything if you keep trying.”
