Celebrating National Engineers Week: Faith’s Inspiring Engineering Journey

February 7, 2025

In celebration of National Engineers Week, we’re shining the spotlight on Faith, whose journey is just beginning as a first-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering student. With the world advancing in technology, Faith is driven by a vision to contribute to that progress, and she is already making waves in this traditionally male-dominated field.

One of Faith’s inspirations is William Shockley, the inventor of the transistor, whose work revolutionized the world of computing. Her interest in engineering and technology grew, and then turned into a passion with support from her sponsor, Scott. “Scott inspired me to pursue a course in Engineering. Since technology is a fast-paced sector, I decided to do a bachelor’s in electrical and electronics engineering,” she shares. Scott’s support and her unwavering determination have set her on a path to success.

Her first year has already provided her with hands-on experience, including a project designed to help students get comfortable using machines for future work. “We had a workshop and technology unit, and we made a bottle opener for our first project. It was really helpful and interactive,” she recalls with excitement. This experience was just the beginning of her engineering journey, and Faith is eager for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

The road to success is never without obstacles, especially in a field where women are underrepresented. “One of the challenges is stiff competition, but when you are focused as a woman, you will be able to maneuver,” Faith says. Despite the challenges, she is determined to thrive in the competitive world of engineering, proving that passion and dedication can break down barriers.

Looking ahead, Faith envisions a future where, using skills learned at university, she helps her community thrive. “I see myself helping the community through teaching them some handwork skills in hopes it will increase job opportunities for them to support their families.”

Faith also has a powerful message for young girls who dream of entering engineering or any other field that might seem daunting. “Do not be discouraged by others. Many think that the field belongs to men only, and through determination, you can succeed,” she advises. Her words are a powerful reminder that gender should never limit ambition, and with hard work and perseverance, any dream is achievable.

Faith’s journey is a testament to the power of inspiration, hard work, and resilience. As we celebrate National Engineers Week, we are reminded of the incredible potential within young women like Faith, who are ready to reshape the future. Her story is just one example of the many young minds making their mark in the world of engineering—and we couldn’t be more excited to support her every step of the way.
