This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the theme “Give to Gain” by shining a light on three remarkable young women whose determination, resilience, and courage have brought them to the threshold of higher education. Their journeys show us the transformative power of education, mentorship, and self-belief, even when the odds seem daunting.
From Fear to Fearless: Jane’s Journey
Before joining Moja Tu, Jane’s biggest worry was simple yet heavy: “Would I even make it to school because of lack of school fees?” High school was challenging, and some subjects felt impossible, but Jane never walked alone. With friends who studied alongside her and the guidance of her sponsor, she learned a crucial lesson: “Everything is possible with commitment. Once you put effort into what you do, you will achieve what you desire, no matter your background.”
Securing a university admission was a milestone Jane worked tirelessly for. “Though it was not easy, I just didn’t give up on my studies and kept trying even when things were difficult,” she reflects. Her perseverance and focus made her dream a reality.
Education has empowered Jane to see herself not just as a student, but as a young woman capable of shaping her future. She is excited to have secured admission to study Law, inspired by a desire to advocate for those who are discriminated against. Jane dreams of giving back to her community by providing basic needs, building a children’s home, and supporting street children, turning her education into a force for positive change.
Reflecting on her journey, Jane says, “Once you have a desire to do something in your life, never give up because of the challenges you face. Keep trying your best, and your efforts will pay off.”
Passion for Teaching: Faustine’s Path
Faustine had successfully completed her earlier studies, but continuing to a better high school felt uncertain without support. With Moja Tu providing the guidance and resources she needed, she was able to continue her education, focus on her studies, and grow both academically and personally.
Her dedication paid off. “I stayed keen, listened to the advice from my parents and teachers, and focused fully on my studies,” she says, reflecting on how she secured her university admission.
Education has strengthened Faustine’s confidence as a young woman and shown her that she is capable of achieving anything she sets her mind to. She is excited for the next chapter of her journey at university, where she plans to study Bachelor’s of Education, English and Literature, inspired by her love for guiding and educating others. Faustine hopes her path will not only improve her own life but also make her family proud and inspire other girls to believe in themselves.
Looking back on her journey, Faustine shares: “Focus on your studies, work hard and smart, and never give up on your dreams. The challenges you face are part of the journey, and perseverance will lead you forward.”
Engineering Hope: Rosaline’s Dream
Rosaline’s journey was marked by uncertainty and academic challenges, but she never let setbacks define her. She credits Moja Tu with helping her believe in her potential, teaching her gratitude, and giving her the tools to tackle problems critically.
Through consistent effort and determination, Rosaline ensured she reached her goal. “I worked hard in my studies, setting my aim to one day join university, and kept being positive even when results weren’t as expected,” she says. Her persistence and hope carried her forward.
Education has empowered Rosaline to see herself as a capable and ambitious young woman. Passionate about Electrical and Electronics Engineering, she has been exploring her technical skills at home and looks forward to applying them at university. Rosaline’s goal is to be a role model for her siblings and community, showing that perseverance and education can transform dreams into reality.
Reflecting on her journey, Rosaline encourages others: “Failure is part of success, and giving up must never be an option. If there is a will, there is a way. Believe in yourself and keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles.”
A Future Filled With Possibilities
Jane, Faustine, and Rosaline show us that education is more than exams and grades; it is empowerment, self-discovery, and the courage to dream bigger than one’s circumstances. These young women embody the spirit of “Give to Gain”: the support they received has helped them grow, and now they are ready to embark on a new chapter of learning, growth, and impact at university.
Their journeys remind every young girl: “Believe in yourself, work hard, and never let challenges stop you. With determination, support, and perseverance, your dreams are within reach, just like Jane, Faustine, and Rosaline have shown.”
