A Journey of Hope and Resilience: How Peter Transformed His Future

February 7, 2025

Peter Ngatia’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and determination. From childhood, which was marked by uncertainty in Laikipia County, to graduating with a degree in Business and Information Technology (BBIT) from Kenyatta University, Peter’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of education and community support.

In 2017, Peter joined the Moja Tu program as a Form One student at Njabini Boys High School. His family faced significant financial challenges, struggling even to meet basic needs. With little hope of continuing his education, Peter’s future seemed uncertain.

“My family could barely afford two meals a day, let alone school fees,” Peter recalls. The arrival of Moja Tu marked a turning point, providing him with the opportunity to pursue his education and rebuild his confidence.

Peter describes his first day with Moja Tu as life-changing. He remembers the overwhelming sense of relief and hope as he realized he wouldn’t have to navigate the path alone. Through Moja Tu, Peter received comprehensive support—tuition, school supplies, mentorship, and personal guidance. His sponsors, Chelsea and Patrick, provided consistent encouragement, while James Anderson, his mentor, offered life lessons that extended beyond academics.

“James taught me how to approach challenges with resilience and to view setbacks as opportunities for growth,” Peter says. He credits this guidance with shaping his approach to both his studies and life.

Peter pursued his passion for technology, earning a BBIT degree from KCA University in 2024. His coursework in cybersecurity, networking, and IT support prepared him to tackle real-world challenges.

Beyond academics, Peter learned the value of using knowledge to make a difference. He emphasized that success isn’t solely about personal achievements but also about uplifting others.

“One of my most significant memories from my Moja Tu journey was receiving my first school box. I saw it as more than just supplies—it symbolized the belief that someone cared about my future and was willing to invest in my potential,” he asserts.

Now a university graduate, Peter is focused on bridging the digital divide in rural areas. He plans to teach computer skills to students in underprivileged communities and eventually establish tech hubs to provide broader access to technology.

“Education and technology can transform communities,” Peter explains. “I want to empower the next generation with tools and knowledge to create opportunities for themselves.”

Peter also plans to mentor young people, sharing the lessons he learned to help them realize their potential and overcome obstacles. He is deeply grateful for the support he received through Moja Tu. He believes the program’s impact goes beyond financial assistance, as it promotes personal growth and a sense of responsibility to give back.

“Moja Tu didn’t just help me; it inspired me to help others,” Peter says.

To those considering sponsoring a student, Peter shares a heartfelt message: “Your support changes lives in ways you may not fully see. It creates ripples of positive change that impact families, communities, and future generations.”

Peter envisions a future where technology bridges gaps in education and opportunity, particularly in rural communities. His long-term dream is to create a tech hub that provides resources and training, ensuring that no child feels limited by their circumstances.

“Resilience and hope have been my guiding principles,” Peter says. “Now, it’s my turn to pass on that hope and help others achieve their dreams.”
