Edwin was one Moja Tu’s first students to enroll in university. In July 2019, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from Kenyatta. Over the years, we have watched him grow from a curious freshman to a knowledgeable young adult. Now, we are proud to announce that Edwin has joined our team as a program manager!
“As a program manager, I will be mainly concerned with the welfare of the university students. I will mentor, monitor, and help the students to be successful,” Edwin says.
Prior to joining the Moja Tu program, Edwin was unsure of what his future would look like. “2015 was a roller coaster of a year for me,” he says. “I had dropped out of university with no way to pay for the tuition fees. My future was uncertain, and I wasn’t sure what my life was going to look like. However, later that same year, I met the Moja Tu team and applied for sponsorship.
I vividly remember the day that I was told I would be sponsored through my university education. Getting this news rekindled all my dreams, goals, and aspirations.”
Of course, enrolling in his degree program was just the first step towards a brighter future. “University education is not easy. Many challenges come with adulthood. However, Moja Tu stayed with me the entire time, guiding me and ensuring I had all the resources I needed to keep pushing forward. Thanks to Moja Tu’s help, my dream of graduating from university came true in July of 2019!”
After graduating from Kenyatta, Edwin found work as a data analyst at a Nairobi-based marketing firm, and then at a leading Kenyan bank as a digital banking specialist. In addition, he and another Moja Tu student developed the Asante Project, a text-based app that has enabled us to more effectively distribute supplies and aid to our students’ families all over Kenya. On top of all of these accomplishments, Edwin has also managed to start a company of his own!
“I am the founder and CEO of Tywan Construction Limited. I founded Tywan back in 2019 when I was completing my undergraduate studies. Tywan specializes in making general supplies and construction materials. We also sub-contract work with different organizations offering unique business solutions such as data entry and resource management.”
Over the past 6 years with Moja Tu, Edwin has grown into a confident, capable young businessman, and we couldn’t be prouder of all that he has accomplished. He serves every day as an excellent example to the younger students in our program. “Being a beneficiary of the program, it is my dream and wish that every student who gets the opportunity to be sponsored fully makes use of it. I am very grateful to my sponsors Monique and Mary for supporting and mentoring me to be the person I am today.”
Please join us in welcoming Edwin to the Moja Tu team!
