The Beat of Resilience: How Martin Used Education to Build His Music Career

October 24, 2025

Meet Martin Njeru, a proud Moja Tu alumnus and a talented young man with an unshakable passion for music and creativity. Born in a big family of 12 children — six sisters and five brothers —Martin learned the value of teamwork, resilience, and determination early in life.

Martin’s life took a positive turn when he joined Moja Tu while living at Tania Children’s Home. Through the program, he received the support and encouragement he needed to continue his education and pursue his dreams. Moja Tu supported him from high school all the way through university, giving him the tools and confidence to build a better future. “Joining Moja Tu opened doors for me,” he shares. “It gave me a chance to study and believe in myself.”

He went on to study Journalism, a course that helped him develop valuable communication, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills. Those skills have played a big role in who he is today. “Studying journalism made me more confident and creative,” he says. “It helped me think differently and find ways to use my talents.”

Today, Martin is proudly self-employed, putting his education and passion into action. He spends his days designing, fitting, and making music equipment such as speakers, while also working hard to grow his own studio and invest in his DJ career. “I like music, and I’m doing this work so I can raise capital to support my studio and DJ equipment,” he explains. His ability to create his own opportunities and run his business is a true reflection of how education empowers young people to be independent and innovative.

Martin’s journey is proof that success doesn’t come overnight; it comes from believing in yourself, using your education wisely, and taking one step at a time. His creativity, focus, and determination to build something of his own are truly inspiring. “I’m talented in music, and that’s what keeps me focused,” he says with a smile.

To the younger Moja Tu students who look up to him, Martin shares heartfelt advice:

“Hard work pays — so keep working and never give up.”

From a young boy in Tharaka Nithi to a successful Moja Tu alumnus building his studio and career in music, Martin’s story reflects the spirit of Moja Tu, turning education into empowerment and opportunity. His journey reminds us that with the right support and determination, every dream can grow into something extraordinary.
