Intern Day is a time to acknowledge and appreciates interns’ hard work, dedication, and achievements worldwide as they work to apply their classroom learning to real-life jobs. This year, we bring you the inspiring stories of four interns, David, Elizabeth, Susan, and Elijah, who have embarked on remarkable journeys in their respective fields. From public health to procurement and logistics management, finance, and nursing, these interns have embraced valuable work opportunities that align with their academic and career goals.
David
Expanding Horizons in Public Health
David, a public health student at Kenyatta University, is currently gaining experience in his field with an internship (called an “attachment” in Kenya) at a Level 4 hospital in his hometown. While working in this position, he primarily focuses on managing health records and informatics, which perfectly aligns with his academic goals. David’s typical day involves collecting and analyzing health-related data and managing patient records.
“Although it was initially challenging, I overcame obstacles by seeking help from colleagues, allowing me to grow professionally and personally through this experience,” he says.
He thanks the Moja Tu Organization for its support, as his sponsorship through the organization has played a vital role in making his internship possible.
Elizabeth
Bridging Theory and Practice in Procurement
Elizabeth, a Procurement and Logistics Management student at Chuka University, has begun an internship opportunity that perfectly aligns with her academic and career goals.
She has gained practical experience through her internship, honed her analytical skills, and deepened her understanding of supply chain processes. While working in her position, she collaborates with other interns and professionals, broadening her perspective and enhancing her learning.
“The support provided by Moja Tu Organization has been invaluable and has enabled me to pursue my internship and develop my career,” she explains.
Susan
Gaining Financial Intelligence for Success
Susan, a commerce student at the Cooperative University of Kenya, is undertaking an internship focused on finance. This opportunity has allowed her to apply her classroom knowledge to real-world situations and gain hands-on experience.
Susan’s daily responsibilities include making payments, maintaining documentation, and vouching for staff advances. Through this experience, Susan has built confidence, developed professional skills, and expanded her network. The support from the Moja Tu organization has played a significant role in Susan’s ability to pursue her internship. She works with Esther, the Finance Director at Moja Tu, as a mentor, which has been beneficial as she applies the skills she learned in her internship.
Elijah
Nurturing Compassion in Nursing and Public Health
Elijah, a nursing and public health student at Kenyatta University, is engaged in clinical rotations as part of his internship program. These rotations have given him practical exposure to the complexities of patient care and the challenges healthcare professionals face.
Elijah’s typical day involves collaborating with healthcare providers, administering medications, and educating patients. Through collaboration with peers and professionals, Elijah has broadened his perspective and developed crucial skills. The support of the Moja Tu organization has been instrumental in Elijah’s academic and professional journey, providing guidance and resources for his success.
We are excited to see these students move closer to achieving their educational and career goals. Their internships have played a vital role in their personal growth, enhanced their understanding of their respective fields, and provided them with practical skills and experiences that hopefully will set them apart as they graduate and begin their careers.
