At Moja Tu, we believe that when you educate a girl, you change the world. This year’s International Women’s Day theme, Accelerate Action, perfectly aligns with our mission to ensure that young women in Kenya have access to education and the opportunities it brings. In 2024, 56% of our sponsored students were female, and we currently support 69 young women in university. We are intentional in breaking barriers and ensuring that every girl, no matter where she comes from, has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
In many communities, girls’ education is still not a priority. Cultural and financial constraints often force young women to abandon their dreams. Moja Tu is committed to changing this narrative. Through our scholarship program, mentorship, and career guidance, we provide young women with the tools they need to succeed. Our efforts are not just about individual success stories; they are about transforming entire communities by investing in female leaders of the future.
Kathy Kempff, CEO and Founder of Moja Tu, highlights the power of education in shaping young women’s futures:
“Education is the key that unlocks the potential within every young woman. When we invest in girls’ education, we’re not just changing individual lives—we’re shaping communities, inspiring future leaders, and building a world where every woman has the power to dream, achieve, and lead. At Moja Tu, we believe in the limitless possibilities that education creates.”
The impact of this commitment is evident in the lives of our students and alumni. Tabitha, who graduated in 2024 with a degree in Horticulture, shares how Moja Tu changed her life:
“Receiving a scholarship from Moja Tu lifted a huge burden off my shoulders. I was able to focus on my studies without worrying about fees, and I gained confidence knowing that someone believed in me. Beyond academics, I found mentors, built a support system, and learned the value of giving back. Moja Tu didn’t just support my education; it empowered me to create a better future for myself and others.”
Monica, a second-year university student pursuing hospitality, reflects on how the program has shaped her journey:
“Moja Tu has had a tremendous impact on me. Through mentorship and girl talks, I have grown in confidence and learned to embrace life’s challenges with a positive mindset. The support I receive motivates me to work hard and build a bright future.”
These stories are just a glimpse of the countless young women whose lives have been transformed through education. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to accelerating action for gender equality in education. By investing in young women, we are not only changing their futures but also uplifting entire communities. The ripple effect of an educated girl is limitless, and at Moja Tu, we are proud to be part of this movement.
Together, we can continue to break barriers, inspire change, and build a world where every girl has the power to achieve her dreams.
