A Decade of Impact: Chantel’s Story of Connection, and Transformation

August 23, 2024

Chantel’s sponsorship journey began 10 years ago and her decade-long journey with Moja Tu has impacted the lives of many, mainly her sponsored student, Rebecca. Her commitment has been a source of inspiration and transformation for Rebecca, a second-year university student who has thrived under Chantel’s support.

In July, Moja Tu’s Kenyan team had the honor of hosting Chantel, and her visit to Kenya was a moving experience that highlighted the power of personal connections and the spirit of giving. The chance for Chantel and Rebecca to finally meet in person was a long-awaited dream for both.

“Ten years after the sponsorship began, I finally got to meet Rebecca, who is now in university after all this time,” Chantel shares excitedly. “It has been an amazing experience. I’m so glad I decided to sponsor her. I didn’t fully grasp how much this decision would impact another person’s life, changing their path and possibilities. Meeting Rebecca’s family and seeing their pride and gratitude has been truly life-changing for me.”

Chantel’s visit was not only about connecting with Rebecca but also about supporting her daughter Nia’s inspiring initiative. At just 12 years old, Nia founded a nonprofit organization called Stemulate the World. This year, Nia partnered with Moja Tu to host a student robotics tournament, and Chantel and her family were in Kenya to cheer on this exciting event. The tournament, held at Kapkures Primary School in Laikipia, was a highlight of their visit and an excellent platform for celebrating the achievements of young innovators.

Chantel was deeply impressed by the students’ dedication and enthusiasm as they prepared for the robotics tournament. “What struck me most was the spirit of collaboration and the students’ genuine excitement. Seeing gender equality, with equal participation and respect for both girls and boys, was incredibly heartening. As an advocate for women’s empowerment, it was important for me to witness such inclusive and equitable opportunities.”

Reflecting on her experience spending time with Chantel, Rebecca expressed profound gratitude and admiration. “Meeting my sponsor and her family was a superb experience. It was a learning moment for me, and I was happy to finally meet her. My favorite part was when my family met her; the interaction was touching. I also cherished our conversations, where she gave me advice and support. Chantel is humble, jovial, and a focused mentor who motivates me to achieve my dreams. Her support is invaluable.”

The transformative power of sponsorship is not just about financial support; it’s about building meaningful relationships that inspire and empower. The bond between Chantel and Rebecca exemplifies this beautifully, demonstrating how one person’s commitment can profoundly change another’s life trajectory.

As Chantel continues her journey of empowering others, her story is a powerful reminder of the impact of compassion and dedication. Her visit to Kenya has left an indelible mark, reaffirming Moja Tu’s mission to provide educational opportunities and foster lasting connections that change lives.
