Our program continues to grow! We’ve added a new face to our ranks as a Program Coordinator here in Texas. Her name is Brenda, and she will be communicating updates about the program and students to our sponsors and supporters, as well as working closely with the team in Kenya. She’d love to say hello!
“Hello! My name is Brenda Martinez. I am currently a fourth-year student at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Journalism. I have a passion for working with kids as I am currently on part-time staff with a nonprofit organization called Young Life. In this program, I help develop fundraising projects, build relationships with adolescents who need guidance and manage a team of other student leaders from UT.
A few things that I like to do when I have some downtime include exercising, playing sports and going on long runs. The outdoors have recently become an escape for me and I have discovered that I enjoy hiking quite a lot! When I’m not on my feet, I like to read or binge watch Netflix shows.
I am over the moon about working with Moja Tu because of the greater purpose that this job holds. I strongly believe that building relationships with students and giving them genuine moral support is a very important factor in their success. A strong support system allows them to know that there are people who care about them and are excited to see them do great things.
I am looking forward to developing and strengthening my skills during my time with Moja Tu. I’m also excited to contribute the skills I currently possess to helping our program and our students flourish. I am eager to learn more about the Kenyan culture, meet the students and get to know all of our sponsors. If you have any questions for me please don’t hesitate to reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org where I will respond as quickly as possible. I am so thankful to be able to be a part of the Moja Tu team!”
