New year, New goals

January 24, 2022

A new year promises new beginnings, a fresh start, and the opportunity to redefine ourselves. Moja Tu students started off the year on a high note, and they took the opportunity to set new goals for 2022.

Rachel

Bachelor of Business Information and Technology

Rachel Mbula

Rachel is a third-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Her new year resolution is to focus on self-growth.

“I want to achieve all the goals I had written in the past and have not yet achieved,” she says. “2021 was a little tough. I made mistakes and had bad experiences, which served as life lessons. In 2022, I want to embrace positivity and see every experience as an opportunity,” she says assertively.

She explains that asking for help is something she wants to do more in 2022, as she has known that a problem shared is half-solved. “I have realized opening up to a trusted friend can be helpful.”

To achieve one’s goals, one must track the progress made and have the plan to meet the goals not yet achieved. Rachel has made a plan and hopes to follow it strictly to avoid procrastination.

“I have written down a list of my goals, and I am working on them daily. I look forward to ticking off the ones I have achieved so that I can focus on those I haven’t yet achieved,” she explains.

Peter

Bachelor of Economics

Peter Erot

Peter is a second-year student at Embu University. Peter is very excited about this new year and has made his resolutions, which he is looking forward to achieving by the end of the year.

“My New Year’s resolutions are to be self-driven, more determined, and courageous enough to face any obstacle on my way to success,” he says confidently.

Making new year’s resolutions helps one be more focused and avoid past mistakes. For Peter, these new resolutions will be critical as he is focused on improving his grades.

“These resolutions will act as a guiding light, especially when the going gets tough,” he explains.

To remain focused on his goals, Peter plans to associate himself with academically serious students and like-minded people, as they will help him keep track of his dreams.

“I plan to track my set goals by reviewing my progress at the end of every week to see what new thing I have learned and its benefits to me,” he reveals and adds, “Some of the key performance indicators that I would like to see at the end of the year include getting a GPA of 60 and above in my second year of studies, giving back to the community through volunteering, and becoming a better swimmer,” he states.

Peter hopes his goals will transform him into a responsible man. We are cheering him on and hope to see him achieve his goals at the end of the year.

Peter

Bachelor of Business and Information Technology

Peter Ngatia

Peter is a first-year student at KCA University. He hopes he can bring change to his society this year, especially during this pandemic, by starting a project of making soaps and detergents.

“My New Year’s resolutions are to be able to plant at least 20 trees in my environment, initiate a soap and detergents making project using herbs, which people will use to wash their hands to fight COVID-19, and lastly, rear chicken,” he says enthusiastically.

His passion for creating a healthier environment in his community motivated him to set these goals, and he is looking forward to implementing them.

“I was motivated to set these goals by identifying the challenges in my community both socially and economically during these hard times of COVID-19.”

He plans to avoid procrastination and be fearless and determined to keep track of his goals.

“Seeing my community practice better hygiene and embrace environmental care will be my biggest triumph by the end of the year,” he explains. He hopes that people’s attitudes toward environmental conservation will be changed.

On a personal level, Peter would like to have grown in all aspects of his life.

“The only thing that I may want to remain stagnant is my height,” he says with a chuckle. Peter is over six feet tall!
