Peter is looking forward to taking the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations at the end of this year, a prospect that excites and scares him in equal measure. He is excited that one chapter in his life will be coming to an end, which effectively signals the start of another. However, he is scared because he isn’t sure how his mother will be able to pay for the steep fees associated with going to secondary school. Peter knows that it is possible he may have to drop out of school like his older siblings.
His mother sells vegetables by the roadside to passers-by each evening while his older siblings work as day laborers in other people’s homes. His family doesn’t earn much, and what little they do make must go to their daily necessities and bills. His father is absent and struggling with substance abuse, and additional source of stress for the family.
Peter is a very open young man who is not shy about speaking of his background. He painted a vivid picture of the struggles his family goes through and why the chance to be sponsored is a chance for them all to make things better. He also knows that a sponsorship is not guaranteed, and is prepared to work hard in order to earn his education. Help Peter become the first of his family to attend secondary school by sponsoring him today!
Sponsoring Peter’s education is $85/month. Thank you for supporting Just One!
